Otter Proofing
Showcase

When otters first intrude into our home space, it is a sign that they have detected a food source within the compound, these are usually koi or ornamental fish kept by homeowners. Otters have been found to be relentless, returning day after day to feed from the food source until it is depleted. Hence, it is necessary to take immediate preventive action to address this. Hesitation often results in a heftier replacement cost for the depleted fish later.

A homeowner had reported repeated otter intrusions resulting in the loss of several prized koi fish. The owner took immediate action to contact Apex Wildlife Management to provide otter-proofing for their pond. Following a site assessment, our team first installed temporary otter netting for immediate protection. This was later upgraded to a permanent otter exclusion mesh system, professionally designed to secure the pond while maintaining its aesthetics. The installation successfully resolved the issue and provided the customer with long-term peace of mind.

Project Brief

Otter Attack

Otters eating fish

The smooth-coated otter is one of two otter species in Singapore commonly spotted navigating canals, rivers and reservoirs. During feeding, they frequently target the organs, stomach and head of the fish first, as these parts are highly nutritious, rich in healthy fats, and easy to digest.

A homeowner had reported several otter intrusions into their home and had called Apex Wildlife Management for assistance. Photo on the right showed the damage done to the koi fish in their pond.

Site Assessment & Temporary Netting

Measurement done by workers

Apex Wildlife Management team was activated immediately to client place. Site assessment to identify potential entry points and vulnerable areas was done while measurements were taken.

An emergency temporary otter netting was set up for immediate protection, providing the homeowner relief on the same day.

Permanent Otter Exclusion Setup

Completed Mesh

A durable, custom-fitted otter exclusion mesh was installed in a follow-up visit to the house preventing otter entry while maintaining airflow, visibility, and overall aesthetics of the landscape.

Safe and secure finally! Peaceful koi fishes leads to a happy homeowner.
